A bizarre hardcore first-person platformer called *Refund This Game* has appeared on Steam. Its goal is right there in the title: the developers openly challenge players to reach the finish in under two hours, then claim a legitimate refund.
The gameplay takes inspiration from *Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy*. You see the world through your character's eyes and use a pole to propel yourself upward, bracing it against objects suspended in midair and carefully judging each push. A timer is always ticking down the standard two-hour window in which Steam allows players to request an automatic refund.
The game's achievements carry the joke even further. You'll earn rewards for reaching the summit before time runs out - a feat only 2.6% of players had managed at launch - as well as for failing and letting the timer pass the point of no return. For seasoned speedrunners, there's an extra challenge: finish the course in less than 24 minutes.
The developers say the game is a satirical response to recent debates in the industry. Last summer, creators of short narrative indie games complained that up to 20% of buyers requested refunds immediately after finishing the campaign, sometimes completing the game in just a couple of hours and effectively playing it for free. *Refund This Game* takes that loophole to its logical extreme, turning Steam's standard refund window into a test of speed and skill.
